Notes

This "Alf." here (Booth's Record of Confederate Soldiers) is Alfred, not Alfonse (Alphonse); his application for a Confederate pension confirms this.

Appears on List of Prisoners of War, Paroled at Pt. Hudson, July, 1863. Roll for Nov. and Dec., 1863, Present, with remarks: Transferred from the Watson Battery and temporarily attached to this Battery, Dec. 26, 1863, by order of Lt. Gen. Polk. Roll for Jan. 1 to April 30, 1864, Present, with remarks: Captured at Pt. Hudson, ordered to report to the Hudson Battery from the Watson Battery by Lt. Gen. Polk. Appears on Roll of Prisoners of War, Paroled as Corpl. in Watson's Batty. at Meridian, Miss., May 13, 1865. He is included on the Civil War page. Gustave J. Pitard Sr. was also at Port Hudson in Watson's Battery, and paroled.

He was the holder of a patent for a "folding coop" (patent no. 354, 894, registered 1886). See the the website on "Index to Early Louisiana Patents, 1810-1890."

At the time of the 1880 census, he was a clerk in a store in New Orleans.

In 1926, after his wife's death, he moved to West Hartford, CT, to stay with one of his (widowed) daughters, Katie Alice Jeter, and her son Sherwood F. Jeter, Jr. This is where he sent his second pension application from.

He applied for a pension twice, in 1913, and 1931. It was apparently refused both times. [1, 2, 3]
