Notes

There are two different dates in Newman for him. Page 2.395 says "born May 30, 1698, married Mary Iiams. " Page 2.449 says "1696-1771," who also married Mary Iiams. I assume that these are actually the same person, and that 1696 is the correct date. Hall refers to this confusion on 185, but doesn't resolve it.

Monk posits the theory that he had more than one wife, that perhaps he had a first wife named Ann Purnell. An Ann Purnell married a John Waters in AA Co. in 1717/8. Newman suggests that she had been married to John Waters (1698-1774). [6, 7]
