  Documents		McLellanville This is a reprint of an article originally published between 1890 and 1895 describing the McLellan shipyards run by the McLellans on the south bank of the Mississippi in New Orleans. Pictured are William H.P. McLellan (d. 1895) and two of his sons, Alden and Orris. "Azeal" in the body of the article must mean "Asahel," the other living brother. This is taken from "Old Algiers" by Richard Remy Dixon, page 57. Status: Located

• Notes

  Leonora his mother had a brother named Orris, after whom he was no doubt named; he had died about ten years before Orris Irvin was born. In the 1890-91 Lousiana Directories there are two entries. The first lists him as the manager of the McLellan Dock company (along with his brother W.H. McLellan as the President) located at "98 Patterson, 5th district; office rear 159 Common." The second records him as a manager for the McLellan Dock Company at 308 Canal. He was a member of the State Senate from 1900-04, and 1908-12. He gained some notoriety for enlisting for service in WWI at the age of 64. In a notice in the newpaper he is described as "Col." He was buried, in the McLellan tomb in Lafayette Cemetery, in his French Foreign Legion uniform. Tomb inscription: [mason insignia] ORRIS I.
